This Honey Locust vessel was turned wet and dried rapidly. Honey Locust is a great wood, it can be temperamental at times though. I wanted to use this as an accent for these pieces. Hence the checking and small cracks in the pieces. I wanted to use them in the final vision for the piece. The pieces were dyed black and then sanded to reveal a beautiful hue in the natural wood. The namesake black color is brushed on as the final step of the process. These pieces marry my love for wood with my love for painting and experimentation.
